ABOUT PERSONAL SKILLS
Purpose:
-
Prepare students for independent living as adults to the extent possible or appropriate

Prepare students for obtaining and maintaining employment within the community
Tasks:
-
Household tasks such as cooking, baking, cleaning, laundry, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping , mopping, etc.

Job tasks such as folding and filling children’s menus, assembling dry cleaning hangers, preparing bags for Meals on Wheels, sorting and numerically ordering government farmers’ market vouchers, inventorying school store product, counting money, making out deposit slips, tracking money and inventory on computer spreadsheets, making/selling/delivering beverages to staff in different locations in the building, shredding, copying & collating for staff, etc.

Pre-Employment tasks such as mock interviews, filling out applications, job searching, determining criteria necessary to get into a specific career, inventory and questionnaire lists to help find “good fit” jobs for likes and interests, etc.
Assessment:

Quantity/Quality/Independence/Perseverance checklists while completing jobs

Accuracy/Acceptability of written or verbal responses to pre-employment tasks

Reviews from “employers” and “customers” within the school setting
